What we do
In the Colombian Pacific, two contrasting realities intertwine. On one hand, there's the harsh reality of violence, neglect, and historical segregation that has affected the Afro-Colombian populations living there. On the other, this region is a land brimming with magic and resilience, home to communities pulsating with music and dance, diligently preserving the traditions of their ancestors. Their paths wind through rivers and mangroves, where they fish and cultivate the land, while their cuisine boasts a unique flair and flavor. Skilled artisans, they craft intricate pieces and concoct traditional remedies from jungle plants.
Marimbea, founded in 2016, is a beacon of hope in this landscape. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of communities in the southern Colombian Pacific by crafting and offering immersive experiences in music, dance, cuisine, and other ancestral knowledge of the region. Each of our activities not only creates alternative sources of income but also fosters knowledge exchange and nurtures strategic partnerships with those involved in culture and tourism, thus transforming the narratives of a region long plagued by violence. By generating income opportunities we not only dignify the community and its ancestral practices but also contribute to a more positive and inclusive future.
